Stay in grand style with a sea view
Bright, airy rooms are calling your name and with a private balcony featuring seemingly endless ocean scenery, you’ll find it impossible to resist. Ranging from swanky classics to master suites, take your pick from a selection of deluxe options. Families will particularly appreciate the 39 square metres of space dedicated for four people with a larger double bed and two single numbers to match. Kids can keep up with their social media activity using the free Wi-Fi, while adults head straight for the mini bar.
The 45-inch TV, air conditioning and toiletries are just some of the perks that come as standard. Some rooms may even contain a kitchenette, which is ideal for Bed and Breakfast holidaymakers. Fancier suites have floor-to-ceiling windows, nearly double the space and can sleep up to six people.
A good mix of flavours
The hotel prides itself on its hearty combination of Madeiran, Moroccan and Mediterranean dishes which provides great variety for Half Board guests. The chef, João Carlos Sousa, has a huge reputation on the island and is the mastermind behind the establishment’s specialities. Don’t want to leave your suite? That’s no problem with the in-room option serving platters of cuisine right on your balcony.
Au Tagine: This Moroccan joint is only open Thursdays between 7pm and 10pm, but it’s worth the wait. Enjoy prawns marinated in chermoula, goats cheese and lobster medallions as you dine like royalty.
Coast Bar: Gaze out of large glass windows adoring the tropical gardens with a Poncha in hand. All while listening to the sweet sound of the piano from this tranquil spot.

Restaurant Cabo Girao: Facing the cape of the same name, this Mediterranean eatery not only provides breathtaking views, but there’s kebabs and steak cooked over a hot stone every Sunday between 7pm and 10pm.
Tratoria De La Fontana: The go-to on a Tuesday and Sunday night, this Italian restaurant cooks up a storm with its favourable wild mushroom risotto and beef carpaccio.
Outstanding facilities
First, you’ll be met by a kiosk full of swimming costumes, sunscreen, clothing and other essentials – meaning you don’t even have to leave the complex if you wish. When you’re all kitted out and unpacked, we recommend heading straight for the lake-size pool decorated with classy sunloungers and accessorised with a dedicated kid’s area for younger ones. There’s also a games room overflowing with fun activities and a library for those who like to delve into a good book while topping up their tan.
The spa is another major attraction onsite, which is hardly surprising with its marble indoor pool area, steamy soaks and soft facials. Reservations may be required, but guests can also take advantage of walking tours, watersports and golf. Just be sure to check at reception if you’re looking to book and to check if there are any additional charges.
Positioned on Ponta da Cruz cliff
We would highly recommend visiting this hotel during the New Year festivities, with its exciting elevated location you can watch as magic unfolds from the island’s firework displays. However, if a summer escape is on the cards, you’ll be pleased to know Funchal is only 10 minutes away. Here you can take the cable car up to the village of Monte, where its botanical gardens are blooming with flora and fauna. You also have prime access to some of Madeira’s best hiking trails, as well as the natural thermal pools of Porto Moniz.
