Known as the gem of the Baltics, Riga promises to be a journey into a cultural wonderland. Dating as far back as 1201, it’s majestic historical centre is now a UNESCO protected world heritage site.
A wealth of Art Nouveau style buildings clustered within the historical centre are amongst the largest groupings of such architectural splendour in the world. This is fused together with a range of other periods ranging from Baroque to Gothic. The Riga Dome Cathedral boasts one of the largest organs in the world and holds regular concerts amidst a city that celebrates a festivity almost every weekend. The city’s eclectic background, given its regional history, has given way to a wealth of new & exciting international and local dining experiences.
Other notable sights include Riga Zoo and the sandy beach area of Jurmala. Riga is a city on the water, surrounded by lakes on one side and sea on the other. A cruise on a wooden river boat is a lovely way to spend a romantic afternoon cruising down the ‘Daugava’ and along the Rigal Canal.
