With a fine sandy beach and nearby medieval town, you get the best of both worlds holidaying in Alcudia.

Tell me more…

One of the best beaches in Spain, Playa d’ Alcudia boasts a long stretch of soft white sand and safe water for kid-friendly splash abouts. A wide range of family friendly amenities, including changing rooms, showers and a kids’ play area make all day beach sessions a breeze, while sun loungers and parasols are on hand for cooling off in the shade.

When it’s time for a paddle, the water is clean, shallow and calm, with lifeguards watching over for added peace of mind. You’ll also find a number of water sports at one end of the beach where you can have a go at kayaking, windsurfing and even water skiing. For the brave, why not experience the thrill of parasailing, where a speed boat will zip you along as you hover 100m over the bay?

After a fun-filled day at the beach, head inland to experience the charms of Alcudia Old Town. This ancient city features a maze of narrow cobbled streets lined with beautiful old buildings and can even be viewed from above, with a walk along the town’s medieval walls. In the evenings, there’s ample opportunity for al-fresco dining, with restaurants offering everything from tapas to pizza.

Awesome attractions

Just outside the walls of Alcudia Old Town, you’ll find the ruins of Pollentia, once the biggest Roman settlement on the island, and home to the world’s smallest amphitheatre. A trip up the coast will take you to the unmissable Formentor Cape, where you’ll wind your way through breathtaking scenery to reach the iconic lighthouse and sublime ocean views.

Palma

Palma’s most famous landmark, La Seu Cathedral is a must-see attraction for anyone staying in the city. Taking over 300 years to construct, this vast building incorporates a number of stand-out  features, including beautiful stained glass windows and remodelling by the world-famous Gaudi.

Another top historical attraction is Castell de Bellver, one of the most unique castles in Spain. This sturdy fortress has towered over the city for over 700 years, and visitors of all ages will love exploring the tunnels and stairways hidden throughout. At the top of the tower you’ll find incredible panoramic views of the city.

Away from sightseeing, there’s plenty to do to keep all ages entertained. The nearest beach is just a short walk from town and is ideal for family swimming, with clear water and soft golden sand. A visit to Palma Aquarium is also one for the bucket list, and competes with the best in Europe. Home to one of the world’s deepest shark tanks, this underwater experience makes for a fascinating (and terrifying!) day out for the whole family.

Enchanting evenings

Parc de la Mar is the perfect spot to take in the majesty of the cathedral, and here you can sip on a glass of wine, listen to some live music and breathe in the atmosphere. For an exclusive dining experience, make your way to Las Terrazas del Bendinat, where you’ll find modern Spanish cookery at its best, and enjoy spectacular views across the ocean.

Night life capital Magaluf has earned its reputation as one of the best party hot spots in Spain and it’s easy to see why. Playing everything from house and D&B to 80’s disco classics, the clubs and bars along the main strip know how to fill the floor, and don’t stop until the sun comes up. Just don’t forget to pay a visit to the amazing BCM superclub, voted one of the best clubs in the world, and home to international DJ superstars over the summer months.

The main beach is long, with soft white sand and gorgeous clear water for taking a dip. There are also plenty of sun loungers to chill out on and get your tan on, with parasols for when the Majorcan sun gets a bit too toasty. If you feel like escaping the crowds for an afternoon, the tranquil Cala Falco beach is just a 10 minute drive down the coast. This secluded bay backs on to a pine tree forest and the water is crystal clear.

For adventure seekers, Magaluf won’t let you down. The beach provides a ton of options for all kind of water-based thrills, from banana boats and doughnuts to parasailing and water-skiing. And if that doesn’t float your boat, there’s also Western Water Park, with four kamikaze slides, including one with a 30 meter vertical drop! Besides fun in the water, there’s plenty to keep everyone happy, including go-karting, quad biking, horse riding and golf.

Ocean spray

Spending a few hours on a boat with the crew is a must-do in Magaluf. A popular option is a speed boat tour, where you get to fly across the water, stopping off here and there for a snorkel and a swim. For an equally exciting experience, an afternoon out on a catamaran is a great way to see the wonders of Majorca from the Med while topping up the tan.
