Pisa has a head start on many places due to the fact that most visitors to Italy already know about its most significant landmark. This is a pity, as there is much more to Pisa than the leaning tower!

The city is located in Tuscany, to the south of Genoa and is close to the sea. It has a rich maritime tradition dating back to the 12th century. Although the coastline is not as attractive as its northerly neighbour, the Italian Riviera, there is much to admire in Pisa.

The tower isn’t the only architectural marvel to see. It sits among Pisa’s spectacular Campo dei Miracoli, or Field of Miracles, and is complemented by the Duomo Cathedral, Baptistry and Camposanto, meaning ‘holy field’.
